Monday 14th September: The start of your journey

Getting you all set for your studies, today is the start of this year’s academic journey with UCFB. We will introduce you to key departments that will help you along the way as well as provide you with the tools you’ll need to succeed in your IT induction. You’ll also have the opportunity to learn more about our global study hubs in iconic stadiums in New York, Atlanta, Toronto and Melbourne.

Tuesday 15th September: Industry insight from Martin O’Neill

Along with further important departmental inductions, we’re delighted to bring you this year’s first edition of our LMA guest speaker series, which will be broadcast live online to all UCFB students. Bringing you an insight into life as a top level football manager, we will be interviewing former Republic of Ireland manager Martin O’Neill on his career as both a top level player and a club and national team manager. He will also be providing his advice for students embarking on a career in sport.

As a player, O’Neill won the European Cup twice in succession with Nottingham Forest and earned 64 caps for Northern Ireland including captaining them at the 1982 World Cup. Since hanging up his boots, he has managed a host of clubs including Leicester City, Celtic, Aston Villa, Sunderland and Nottingham Forest, winning several league and cup trophies along the way. He also managed the Republic of Ireland from 2013 to 2018, guiding them to qualification for the 2016 UEFA European Championship.

Thursday 17th September: An exclusive panel of sports leaders

Today we have an exclusive virtual panel discussion on the impact of COVID-19 on sport, with expert insight from LMA Chief Executive Richard Bevan, Southampton FC Club Secretary Ros Wheeler, The National League Chief Executive Michael Tattersall and former Olympian Gail Emms.

To conclude your induction week, we will provide you with information on how to access our Employability & Enrichment hub, your gateway to a world of enrichment and work experience opportunities in the sports industry to prepare you for your future career in this exciting sector.

Sports

We are following the government’s return to recreational team sport framework and the guidance from each sport’s governing body. We are planning for our sports teams to return to training from September wherever sporting governing bodies and our facilities allow this. Trials will also begin early in Semester 1 when it is safe to do so. In addition to the sports teams, we will continue to support students who wish to compete and participate in other individual sports.

It has been confirmed that there will be no BUCS fixtures until Semester 2, we aim to arrange non-competitive fixtures in Semester 1 for sports where it is safe to do so and will confirm these once we are able to do so.

The UCFB Academies in London and Manchester will start as planned in September. Whilst there will be no competitive fixtures in Semester 1, we will be running training for both academies and will aim to arrange friendlies where governing body guidelines permit. Trials for the academies will also take place in September.

Further details on each individual sport will be provided during your induction and orientation session.

If you have any queries regarding induction and orientation, please contact us via the contact us page or call us on 0333 2417 333.
