Third year BA (Hons) Sports Business and Sports Broadcasting students have been given the fantastic opportunity to help film National League matches for BT Sport.

Thanks to UCFB‘s unique partnership with The National League, students are gaining a number of different work experience opportunities throughout the leagues and its 68 clubs.

Aaron Whitnall and his class were given the opportunity to put their camera skills to the test at a number of recent matches. He said: Over the course of our third year, this BT Sport placement has been shared out between our class depending on who is available to cover various games and where they are being played.

Myself and class mate Sean Malloy were asked by our tutors if we would be available to take on the game between Salford City and Harrogate Town.”

When the game took place, Salford were top of the league with Harrogate closely behind in second. This fixture was set to be a prominent feature on BT Sport’s National League highlights show so it was imperative that the pair produced high-quality footage.

Talking through their on-the-day duties, Aaron said: “Our objective was to film and then follow the game before editing the match into a minute-long highlights package for the highlights show. We then had to interview both managers, which would also feature on BT Sport.”

The placements with BT Sport are the perfect opportunity for students to put the skills they learn in the classroom into practice in a high-intensity environment.

Summing up his experience filming for BT Sport, Aaron added: It was a great experience to travel, film and then edit a highlights package for a game that was going to be shown on national TV. It really allowed us to get stuck into a bit of everything, which again really helps us to continue developing a number of skills that are vital for a successful career in the sports broadcasting profession.
