“Every day is different. I try to keep a schedule as much as I can, but when you’ve got a Tuesday match and then a Saturday match it can really vary – especially if there’s an away game!”

All the way through their studies at UCFB, students are told to make the most of every opportunity that comes their way because they’ll never know who they might impress along the way. For Aarron, it resulted in a full-time job.

Initially working as a media volunteer at Women’s Super League 2 side London Bees, he impressed enough that upon graduating from his BA (Hons) Football Business & Media programme in 2017 he was offered the role of Media & Communications Officer at the club and their male counterparts, Barnet FC.

He’s now responsible for looking after all external communications for both clubs. From social media to their websites, and from editing the match day programme and dealing with media requests, his job encompasses the whole media sphere.

“My favourite aspect of the job is the unpredictability”, he says. “Your whole career is results driven. I could be writing about a really positive result one week, then the next you could get hammered and have to try and put a positive spin on it.”

Before beginning his studies at UCFB, Aarron started as a volunteer at his local club Chippenham Town by helping to run their social media channels. It was here that he thought there could be a career in it for him.

Aarron said: “My studying really gave me a grounding in the [football] industry. The lecturers were very friendly and almost become life tutors to you with advice and support when you need it. They gave me the confidence and self-belief to go for this job because they’d been there and done it themselves.”
