I have just started my third year studying Football Business and Media at the Burnley campus. I was the Chief Youth Website Developer, working in the Media Department of Bury FC from June until September. I was based in the Press Office, working alongside the Press Officer.

Responsibilities

Day-to-Day I worked beneath the club director, developing the club’s Youth/Academy Website; this included putting my own ideas onto the website, which also involved working with the commercial department to implement sponsorship for players.

Additionally, I used my PR and journalism skills from UCFB as well as skills picked up from other placements to work to a high standard. I communicated with other departments every day (including Coaching, Commercial and Media departements) which helped me to improve my work due to a wide range of input and guidance, as well as gaining contacts.

Contributions

I contributed marketing ideas which helped promote the club on and off the pitch. These included my idea for a slogan to promote the club (One Town, One Team, One Dream), which was subsequently used on the club’s fixture list and other channels. I also helped to promote the club around the town, speaking with businesses in order to build local relationships.

I pitched a marketing strategy designed to get more people in through the gates on matchday which is soon to be implemented. During my time at Bury I also designed multiple advertisements including job roles and was accredited on the club’s website.

Thanks to Rachel Brown-Finnis at UCFB for setting up the placement. This opportunity helped me to develop my skills and my CV and has also made me feel confident that I could utilise my skills to work within a football or sports club in the future.
