UCFB is delighted to announce that former England, Liverpool and Bolton Wanderers coach Sammy Lee will be talking to UCFB Wembley students next week as part of the Executive Guest Speaker Series.

Lee, who also played nearly 200 games for Liverpool and won the European Cup twice, will appear at UCFB Wembley on Wednesday 18th October at 10am.

Sammy Lee

With a playing and coaching career that stretches across a number of England’s most famous clubs, Lee’s talk at UCFB is guaranteed to be an influential and memorable occasion.

A playing career that also took in the sights of Queens Park Rangers and time in Spain with Osasuna, Lee is most fondly remembered for his time on Merseyside. His time at the Reds coincided with one of the most dominant spells in English football history, and Lee can proudly boast two European Cup medals, three league titles and four League Cup successes to his name. The defender also represented England 14 times

His playing career finished at Bolton, and he was soon offered his first role in coaching back at Anfield alongside then-manager Graeme Souness, later making his way from reserve team coach to assistant manager under Gerrard Houiller. Lee was also part time coach for England under Sven-Goran Erikkson at the 2002 World Cup, joining the national set-up full time in 2004.

The following year, Lee joined Sam Allardyce at Bolton where the pair were influential in introducing sports science to the Premier League. In 2007, Lee became first team manager following Allardyce’s departure to Newcastle, but a difficult run of results saw him soon leave the club.

Lee soon returned to Liverpool as assistant to Rafael Benitez, before leaving in 2011. Since that time, Lee has had spells with Ronald Koeman at Southampton, and Allardyce twice with England and then Crystal Palace.

Sammy Lee will appear at UCFB Wembley, in The Atrium, at 10am on Wednesday 18th October.
