Global Institute of Sport has been celebrating International Women’s Day by attending an Australia-based festival championing women in sport.

The Women in Sport Festival was organised by Lake Macquarie City Council, and is aimed at inspiring curious sporting newcomers and aspiring professional athletes and sports leaders alike.

The festival, held between Sunday, March 4 and Sunday, March 12 at Lake Macquarie, New South Wales, was attended by many sports organisations.

The range of organisations in attendance, including GIS, were providing pathways on and off the pitch for the next generation of female sports professionals.

This included opportunities to get involved in community sports such as volleyball, gymnastics, AFL, rugby league and football.

Global Institute of Sport were there to provide opportunities for women to forge and accelerate a career in sports coaching or marketing via Master’s degrees and professional education short courses.

Ray Boggiano, GIS’ head of development in the Asia-Pacific region, attended the event on behalf of GIS.

He said “It is an exciting time for Australian sport with the Green and Gold Runway to Brisbane 2032 and 10 major international tournaments in as many years.

“This year in particular is a pivotal one for women in Australian sport, as well as women’s sport, as we look forward to Australia and New Zealand hosting the FIFA Women’s World Cup.

“We are working closely with all major stakeholders including Women Sport Australia and Football Coaches Australia to ensure that there is a long-lasting legacy for women in sport in this country.”
