GIS’ Elite Player Care course, launched at our Miami Campus last month, has proved a resounding success, as industry professionals travelled from across Florida to propel their career in sport through this vital, rapidly expanding sector.

From delving into contemporary issues with mental health and football, or soccer, players, to encouraging delegates to consider how to implement this within their own organisations, GIS’ experienced academics provided a detailed insight into how the role of player care is transforming elite sport.

Delivered in partnership with Premier Sports Network (PSN), the course explored, over the course of a day, the various components of player care, how best to approach these on an individual and group level, and the statistics that prove the correlation with on-field performance.

In fact, the course inspired Inter Miami CF’s Academy Administrator to start a player care programme at the MLS club. Commenting on the day, he said: “The Elite Player Care in Soccer Course was extremely enjoyable and knowledgeable. I hope to use this information to kick start a Player Care role at my current club. We often forget how critical a player’s mental health and wellbeing is for performance, both on and off the field. This course really highlighted the importance of humanizing the athlete. It was a really great experience.”

Dr. Richard Elliott, Course Leader for the Elite Player Care course both in the US and the UK, added: “It was an absolute pleasure to host MLS club staff as well as representatives from a range of other organisations at our GIS Inter Miami campus for the Elite Player Care in Soccer award. The levels of engagement shown by the delegates was absolutely superb, as was the feedback that we’ve received in respect of their experiences on the course. I’m very much looking forward to bringing the course back to North America in the near future.”

GIS Miami Campus launched earlier this year, where delegates are able to study a range of pioneering Master’s programmes, from Sports Directorship to Football Coaching and International Sports Management, which are all also available to study at our UK campuses in London and Manchester.
