This summer, BA (Hons) Football Business & Finance student, Jacob Weaver began an exceptional internship at PwC; one of the world’s largest and most reputable organisations in the professional services industry. The unique student placement opportunity, based in New Zealand, has enabled Jacob to gain invaluable work experience at a highly influential company and thus further his understanding of the corporate world. The enthusiastic and driven student will be able to apply this experience and supplement his knowledge from the classroom in order to increase his chances of securing his dream job as a qualified accountant at a sports club.

Securing an internship at the leading professional services’ New Zealand branch, Jacob is able to shadow employees for three months from June to September. The New Zealand branch employs over 1,100 staff and has a strong industry focus with multi-discipline teams dedicated to key industry groups in both global and national markets.
Throughout the three-month period, Jacob will engage in a multitude of activities that will provide unparalleled industry experience at one of the world’s leading professional services organisations. His main responsibility is to assist with the private business, advisory and consulting teams in order to help clients with a range of financial and accounting projects.
BA (Hons) Football Business & Finance student Jacob has just completed his first year at UCFB Burnley at Turf Moor, home of Burnley Football Club and the knowledge he has gained during his first couple of semesters will help him immensely during his summer internship. The internship provides the perfect opportunity to use accounting software, including Excel and APS, which are regularly used in the world of finance. Jacob can take advantage of opportunities with local businesses in the community while gaining incredible international insights into the business culture of New Zealand.
After his first month at PwC, Jacob commented:
“I am thoroughly enjoying the internship. I have only worked here a short while but I’m incredibly excited to see what else they have waiting for me. I am hoping that this opportunity will help to supplement my education and provide me with the relevant industry experience, so that upon graduation I can work in my dream job as a qualified accountant for a professional sports club.”
