The National Football Museum in Manchester is a treasure trove of delights for football fans all over the country.
Memorabilia spanning the last century, including England’s famous 1966 World Cup win, and an expanse of interactive games are housed there, wowing crowds on a daily basis.
And it’s in this special building that UCFB Etihad Campus student Lewis Ferguson is currently enjoying work experience as part of the organisation’s finance team.
The BA (Hons) Football Business & Finance student landed the role after applying to an advert placed by the UCFB Complementary Curriculum and Employability team. In the role, Lewis utilises his skills learnt so far on his degree programme by helping the team to manage their accounts and deal with invoices. Lewis is also spending his time at the museum analysing their practices and previous accounts to advise how it could streamline its finances and be more efficient in its spending.
Lewis said: “I am able to apply what I am learning on my course in a real working environment. This will be invaluable when applying for potential jobs in the industry after I graduate. Placements like this are hard to get, but are valued by many prospective employers. I also hope it helps me to focus on my goals in a way that I can tailor to my career path.”
He added: “The staff at the museum have been extremely helpful too and have ensured that I have enjoyed and got the most out of my placement.”
