One of our students has taken a new role for summer working in the venue operations at Ascot Racecourse.

Emily Elmes, who has just completed three years studying BA (Hons) Football Business and Marketing at our Wembley Campus, is now heading with her degree into an equally iconic sporting venue.

After a run of interviews, Emily was given the role where she will oversee the accreditation process and be the main point of contact for any queries.

She said: “During the five days of the Race meeting I will be responsible for welcoming any visitors and distributing any accreditations that require picking up on the day.

“I am extremely excited to be given this opportunity to gain experience working at one of the most iconic horse races in the world being held at an internationally known premier course.”

She is also looking forward to what this will lead to, saying: “As a result of the experience I will have gained in this position I have now successfully been awarded a further operations based role at York Racecourse over the remainder of the summer.”

She added, talking about her studies: “I have really enjoyed my time at UCFB. The course has been challenging in a positive way but ultimately very rewarding. My lecturers have been extremely supportive in helping me to fulfil my potential during the degree.

“The course has no doubt enabled me to demonstrate both knowledge and commitment which has helped me secure the position.”

She finished: “I have always enjoyed and participated in competitive sports such as football and running. As a result of this experience and knowing people working in the industry, I am very much aware of how rewarding and enjoyable it can be.

“Therefore, I would suggest working hard during your course and take any opportunities for work experience in any related fields whilst you study.”
