Some very fortunate students were taken on a tour of the BT Sport studios last week, and got the chance to see how a live Champions League broadcast is run.

The students got their own guide around the studios during the broadcast of Real Madrid v Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16.

The opportunity came about due to lecturer Tom Skippings doing some freelance work for BT Sport, as he managed to set up the private tour with some of his fellow colleagues.

The students were sown around different green rooms before being shown around the two studios and the gallery, seeing staff rehearsing for the broadcast.

They took away with them some skills and knowledge of how television production works at the top level of sports.

Benjamin Parker, a First Year studying Multimedia Sports Journalism at our Wembley Campus was one of the fortunate students who attended.

He said: “From this experience, I learnt what it takes to run a television programme and the number of people it takes in different roles to distribute the full thing without any issues.

“It's a very fast-paced job whether you work as an assistant, sound manager or a camera operator.”

He added: “The quicker you find out new information, the better you will be in the long hall.

“I'm still learning on the job, what the sports industry has to offer, but what I would say is ask away, ask questions and never be afraid to do so.”
