UCFB offers a number of unique scholarship opportunities to students of all abilities across a number of disciplines, with scholarships available based on academic and sporting achievements, as well as social mobility, among other categories.

David Borroughs, a BA (Hons) Football Business & Marketing student, was awarded the Martin Prothero Scholarship. Here, he tells us about how the award has helped him at UCFB, as well as detailing his time at UCFB so far.

How has the scholarship helped you so far?

By being awarded the scholarship it has shown me that I can succeed at UCFB. I plan to attend a course on public speaking in semester one and presentation skills in semester two.

What made you decide to want to come to UCFB and apply for the scholarship?

I decided to apply so I could enhance my learning and undertake extra-curricular activities not offered elsewhere at other institutions.

How has your time at UCFB been so far?

Difficult. As a mature student, getting back into the swing of full time studying has been a challenge.

What aspects of UCFB have you enjoyed the most?

Learning new academic skills and being able to apply these to a working environment. Also meeting new people from all kinds of backgrounds.

Any advice for students looking to come to UCFB, in particular those thinking of applying for a scholarship?

Just be yourself.  Write your personal statement as if you are talking to friend about your life and your achievements. That way you won’t go far wrong!
