Three UCFB students recently took a trip across the Atlantic Ocean, spending some time on an exchange at one of the most prestigious universities in the world.

Acar Keskin, Elena La Ficara and Harry Forbes were selected from their course, BA (Hons) Sports Business and Sports Law, to represent UCFB on an exchange to Harvard University back in October.

One of the three Wembley Campus-based students, Harry Forbes, spoke about their trip to the historic Massachusetts university.

How did this exchange come about?

“Our exchange with Harvard University took place on campus at their Law School.

“As law students, who are interested in Sports Law, the main premise of the exchange was to expand and develop our knowledge on this subject in conjunction with our UCFB course.”

What opportunities did this exchange allow you to do while at Harvard?

“Prior to our trip, we attended numerous online lectures with Harvard University, which focused on ‘Representing the Professional Athlete.’

“Whilst at Harvard we took part in various Harvard Law School lectures such as contract drafting and tort law.

“As well as attending classes, we also undertook our own projects during our time there with the help of Professor Carfagna and Professor Caputo.

“The combination of attending these classes and gaining feedback from Harvard professors most certainly helped towards our development in Sports Law.”

Away from the classroom, what were some of the highlights from the trip?

“The hospitality we received was second to none.

“Attending dinners with sports lawyers in Boston, attending a Harvard College Football game and building connections with Harvard students were amongst a few of the highlights.”

Now you’re back in the UK, how do you look back on your time over there?

“Looking back on the exchange, it was truly a once in a lifetime opportunity.

“To have the opportunity to leave one immense campus in Wembley and arrive at the world-renowned Harvard University; To study at both is simply what dreams are made of.

“The connections we made will be ones for life and we look forward to welcoming Harvard students to Wembley in 2023.”

Following your visit, is there any advice you’d like to offer to any prospective students thinking of attending UCFB?

“If you are determined to pursue a career in sports, then you really can’t look any further than UCFB.

“The opportunities such as this Harvard exchange are endless and if you put in the work you will most definitely reap the rewards.”
