Starting life in higher education can be a daunting prospect. Leaving home for a new city, surrounded by new people and learning about your base for the next three years. It is also an incredibly exciting time with new freedoms, new opportunities and new experiences around every corner.
At UCFB students all have one thing in common: a love of football and sport. From day one students spend their time with people who have the same passion and same goal – to work in the global sports industry. Below, we’ve pulled together some key bits of advice from some of our students and graduates about how to succeed during your time at UCFB…

“Attend all your lectures, make some good friends on your course and motivate each other throughout the year; it is much easier when you have the right friends around you! Use social media to your advantage and take every opportunity given, no matter how small it may seem. The best work experience comes from lower league clubs.”

“Make sure to check your emails regularly! The amount of opportunities that come your way will be astounding. Then make sure you make the most of them, get as much experience as you can and network with those on your course. It’s good to build those relationships as you can learn skills from each other. Finally, work hard and enjoy yourself!"

“Enjoy every minute of being around like minded people, it’s as easy as asking what team someone supports to start a conversation. Remember you are there for a reason and you deserve to be there as much as everyone else. Keep your head up and be confident.”

“My advice for those going into their first year of UCFB is to make the most out of opportunities. Most of the time you will need to go out there and seek opportunities to get you to where you desire. Stay focused on your goals and be ready to achieve!”

“My top tips would be ensuring you try to get involved with as much as possible, both socially and academically. The Students' Union put on some great events that are important to attend to meet new people. Alongside this, make sure to use the opportunities available - an internship in first year can help to form how you want your career to go and looks great on your CV.”

“The best thing I did during my time at UCFB was to go out and get work experience. Don't let being a first year prevent you from applying for roles that the Employability & Enrichment team offer out or from emailing your CV around. The key to being a success in the industry is to put your name out there right from the start, make sure people know who you are and build up your CV over your three years at UCFB as much as possible.”
