From Tottenham Hotspur to Nottingham Forest to Fulham FC, Adele Hancock is making her way around some of England’s most historic football clubs. Now a Ticketing Executive at Fulham’s Craven Cottage, the BA (Hons) Football Business & Marketing student is immersing herself in the chaotic but colourful world of EFL Championship football. Here, she tells us about the role and her time at UCFB so far…

Tell us about your role at Fulham FC and how you landed it.

I am currently working as a Ticketing Executive at Fulham Football Club. I wanted a suitable role to fit around my studies but still working in a relevant industry. I found and applied for this role on UCFB’s JobTeaser portal; it works perfectly for me because it’s flexible and I can choose which days I want to work.

What have been some of your favourite moments at the club so far?

Overall, I enjoy working within the football environment, speaking to football fans regularly and being involved in the preparation for a match day. I’ve been given a full-ground tour and on matchdays I can watch the games when I’ve finished working. I have also been doing work with Premier Sports Network and next month I will be helping out with their networking event at The Mayfair Hotel which I am really looking forward to.

What have you taken into the role from your BA (Hons) Football Business & Marketing programme?

The degree helps give you an understanding of the entire football business model. So, I am understanding more elements of what’s happening around me within the club, not only at the Ticket Office.

During your degree, you’ve also worked at Tottenham Hotspur and Nottingham Forest. How important do you think this experience was in gaining your role at Fulham?

During my interview, a key interest was in my previous experience within football clubs and what knowledge I could bring over to the role. I believe the experience I had definitely helped me in getting the position.

How have you found balancing these roles alongside your studies?

I do have a busy schedule managing my time around working, volunteering and studying, however I believe that relevant work experience really does compliment formal study so it is beneficial for me in the long run and could help me with securing a role once I have completed my degree.

How have you found your time at UCFB?

Some of the lectures are based inside Wembley Stadium with a view of the pitch so to me, there is no place better to study a football degree. UCFB is full of opportunities, there are regular reputable or well-known guest speakers who give an insight into the industry and we have the opportunity to do additional short courses like Spanish and agent courses.

What advice do you have for anyone looking to study at UCFB?

Do it! Take up every learning opportunity available and actively network during your time here. The UCFB staff are supportive and are always able to help with study or finding relevant work opportunities.
