UCFB Etihad Campus Women made the short trip to Manchester Metropolitan University knowing that two wins from their remaining two games would secure them the title in their first season.

At first it seemed things weren’t going to be easy, with Manchester Metropolitan sporting face paint and giving out a huge battle cry prior to kick off. In truth however, UCFB couldn’t have asked for a better day.

The opening 15 minutes were nervy for UCFB, but they still managed to create chances through winger Jess Holland and striker Poppy Hughes.

Shortly afterwards, UCFB’s early pressure paid off with three quick-fire goals from Jen McGill, Emily Hindle and Rebecca Leonard in the 21st, 23rd and 27th minute respectively.

Holland grabbed her first of the afternoon on the half hour mark with a delicate chip over the Met keeper. Hughes followed up three minutes later to slot into an empty net to make it 5-0.

Captain Catherine Archer then got on the score sheet with UCFB’s sixth, seven minutes before half time.

In the second half, the promotion chasers started where they left off when Hughes grabbed her second and then completed her hat trick within ten minutes of the restart to make it 8-0.

As the second half progressed, the goals kept on coming for UCFB. Holland coolly slotted home twice in five minutes to seal her hat-trick and take UCFB into double figures. The winger then struck again seconds later to make it 11-0.

Not to be outdone, Captain Archer popped up with two in the space of a minute to make it 13-0 and complete a dominant display from UCFB, who are now just one win away from promotion and a coveted title in their inaugural season.
