Around 130 students from both Wembley and Etihad campuses were treated to a day at Silverstone, where they learned all about the motorsport industry and career opportunities within it.

Students from the two campuses met on a wet and windy Northamptonshire morning, as they were taken on a tour of the historic circuit, watched some cars race round and had a look around the venue’s museum.

While at the home of the British Grand Prix, talks were given to the students about the vast number of careers which can be achieved in the motorsport industry.

The students thoroughly enjoyed the day trip to Silverstone, and were delighted with what they learned about motorsport.

Rio Rosenburg, a Football Business and Media (link) student, said: “We did some simulation experience. I think everyone crashed a few times, but all in all, a really good experience.

“To learn about the history of Silverstone is pretty special, seeing Lewis Hamilton’s race suit, the old Red Bull cars, alpha cars.

“Motorsport is such a cool and different sport away from football. I think everyone tries to get into the football industry, but motorsport offers a new and completely different experience.”

Simon Fitzjohn, UCFB’s employability and career planning manager, said: “One of the things we get asked about most by UCFB and GIS students is motorsports and careers in motorsport.

“So we thought ‘Why not go to the mountain of all knowledge and come to Silverstone for the day?’

“We’ve had a fantastic day with about 130 students from both campuses. We’ve had talks on career opportunities within motorsport.

“The students have been able to mix with each other from both campuses and we’ve all had a fantastic time, so we’ll be definitely be doing this again.”
