Students had the unique chance to quiz some of the leading names in sports finance at a recent conference in central London.

The Finance in Sport conference, hosted by Premier Sports Network (PSN), brought together over 150 elite level sports representatives from around the world of sport to discuss topics concerning the finances of some of the world’s biggest operators.

Five UCFB students were on hand at the event to film, record and interview some of the names in attendance. Between them Tom Haines, Henry Charles, Ben Wiley, AJ Chatfield and Nicola Cox filmed interviews, cutaways and other aspects of the event for a film to be used by PSN.

Attendees at the event included Barry Hearn, chairman of Matchroom Sport and the Professional Darts Corporation, Ruaidhri Dunn, Head of Procurement at The FA and Everton’s Head of Engagement Scott McLeod.

AJ, who was a camera operator on the day, said: “The day was great and everyone there was very welcoming; being around so many industry professionals was invaluable. I learnt a lot from the day as there were many guest speakers on the panels, and Barry Hearn was great to listen and learn from. Barry is someone that’s done everything when it comes to finance in sport. The experience was brilliant and very valuable for a student like myself.”

Ben, who was one of the interviewers, added: “I thought the day went very well and I really enjoyed being in that sort of environment. It was interesting to see and hear from so many people in the industry and learn so many interesting things as well. I would certainly attend another one in the future if given the opportunity.”

Spencer Hidge, director at PSN, commented on the role of UCFB ‘s students: “The day was a huge success for us, and the event received record numbers of professional sports clubs in attendance and national coverage through the mainstream media. The UCFB students were superb and they did a smashing job!”
