With students now back in class and over the effects of jet lag, we thought it was time to catch up with some of those who recently attended the inaugural Global Sports Summit in Melbourne to find out what they made of the week-long event.
As well as hearing from some of Australia’s leading sports professionals at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground, students attended a host of live sporting events including two Big Bash League T20 cricket fixtures and a day of tennis at the Australian Open. Additionally, the students were also given a unique opportunity to enjoy a two-day trip to Sydney to experience the city’s Australia Day celebrations.

“This was my first time at a major tennis tournament, so to see the way they host such a prestigious event with the amount of spectators attending was incredible. We also received great insight in to how the Australian Open is managed from Paul Cammack, Head of participation for Tennis Australia, which showed the magnitude of this spectacular sporting event.
“The Summit has without doubt helped with my career after graduation in terms of giving me a more focused scope on what particular field I want to go in to, but also an idea of how I am going to get there.”

“It’s tough to pinpoint just one moment as the highlight, but for me I think it would have to be the first networking evening. Talking to people who have already been through the journey that we are about to start was beyond helpful and a real eye-opener.
“I think the Summits are an unbelievable opportunity and the lessons you can learn are priceless. I can guarantee at least one aspect of the Summit will help a you at some point in your career.”

“One of the key messages from the Summit was to not be set on one particular goal because many of the guest speakers have gone down different routes to the ones they originally planned. In terms of networking, I have made so many authentic relationships that could prove to be of great use to myself in the future.
“Not only did the Summit give me the opportunity to meet and learn from the best in the Australian sports industry and the chance to attend numerous world class sporting events, but I’ve also met new friends from both UCFB campuses who I’ll definitely keep in touch with.”
The next Global Sports Summits are set to take place later this year at the Red Bull Arena, New York; Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium and Toronto FC’s BMO Field on the following dates:
