Sunderland defender Bailey Wright has had a busy few years on the pitch, winning promotion to the Championship via the League One Play-Off Final, before flying out to Qatar with the Socceroos as part of Australia’s 2022 World Cup squad.
Off the pitch, the 30-year-old is preparing for life after the professional game by studying on GIS’ MSc Sports Directorship course, with a view of one day returning to Australia and working behind the scenes in football.
“I think it’s important for any player to look at your interests and develop yourself alongside playing. I don’t see it as a distraction at all. I see it as a real positive,” said Bailey.
“In the two years I’ve been studying, even from a footballing point of view, things have gone really well for me. I think studying [alongside playing] goes hand-in-hand.”
GIS’s MSc Sports Directorship has seen a host of elite athletes as delegates on the course, including Premier League winners Roberth Huth, Wes Morgan and Joleon Lescott.
