UCFB students received a ringing endorsement from the Rugby Football League this week for their roles at the Super League Grand Final at Old Trafford on Saturday.

MoZiah Selassie and Lewis Wiseman, both students at UCFB Etihad Campus, worked at the Rugby League’s showpiece event of the season having secured placements as Assistant Media Supervisors for the day.

Reflecting on the highlights of the day, BA (Hons) International Football Business student MoZiah said: “My role gave me the experience of taking care of journalists and escorting them to the different places that they had to be, and my access badge allowed me to discover exclusive rooms that you generally wouldn’t be able to see.

"For the game, I had seats at the bottom row in the press area, sitting across from the executive guests. A standout highlights for me was waiting with the players, staff and media pitchside before the game finished. And following the end of the game, we made our way onto the pitch to supervise journalists as St Helens lifted the trophy.”

Work placements are a key feature of UCFB's partnership with the Rugby Football League, enabling students to gain invaluable opportunities at one of the country’s leading sporting bodies.

Commenting on his time working with the RFL events team, BA (Hons) Football Business & Media student Lewis said:From an events perspective, the whole game and show was impressive, and for me personally it was a great experience to learn how big events like that unfold.

"Overall, I thought the day was an amazing experience for me to see how the events industry works on a large scale and taught me some insightful things for future jobs or placements I may do.”

The partnership with the RFL is part of UCFB’s wide network which includes other globally recognised sports industry leaders including The Football Association, League Managers Association, The National League and the USL, each of which provides its own unique opportunities to students.

Robbie Stott, Events Co-ordinator at the Rugby Football League, said: “I would like to pass on my appreciation to Moziah and Lewis. They were both fantastic and really helpful, and they made the event run smoothly and professionally.

"We will have more events next year which we will need volunteers for and the students at UCFB are just the people we want.”
