As the football season drew to a close, applicants and current students at both UCFB campuses joined staff from both UCFB and Burnley Football Club on the hallowed pitch at the historic Turf Moor in this year’s momentous annual Soccer 7s tournament.

A superb platform for 2015/16 applicants to gain a true insight into life at UCFB, prospective and current students were able to realise their dreams by playing on the immaculate pitch that hosted memorable Premier League fixtures this season.

Overall, 112 participants competed in the exclusive tournament, making up a total of 14 teams. There were four group stages, with the winners from each of these groups going onto the semi-finals. The eventual victors were crowned champions of the Soccer 7s tournament in a presentation ceremony on the pitch.

Matthew Lawson, BA (Hons) Football Business & Media Applicant at UCFB Burnley and Soccer 7s winner, commented on the day:

“It’s been an absolute privilege to play here today, especially as Burnley Football Club are my home team. It was great to win at Turf Moor. It was tough to get all the way to the final and at half time neither team had scored, but thankfully we pulled through and won 2-0.”

The tournament was a great success and the event was thoroughly enjoyed by players and spectators alike. The day ended on a great note as trophies were presented to both runners up and winners by UCFB Burnley Sports Coordinator, Chris Purdie.

Chris commented after the event:

“Our annual Soccer 7s tournament at Turf Moor was a fantastic event. It’s a great way for both our current students and prospective students to really integrate and get to know each other ahead of the upcoming academic year, as well as familiarising themselves with the culture here at UCFB.

“Soccer 7s is a great opportunity for people of all levels to come along and participate, and after what I’ve seen today I’m really looking forward to working with the UCFB applicants that will be joining us at UCFB in September.”
