Two UCFB academics held a very successful workshop on artificial intelligence (AI) in higher education at a Manchester-based conference.
Chrissie Gallagher-Mundy, our BA (Hons) Physical Education programme leader, and David Weale, the programme leader for BA (Hons) Sports Management, held the workshop in late April.
The engaging workshop was part of AdvanceHE's Student Engagement Conference 2023, Manchester Metropolitan University.
The session was titled ‘AI: When Robots Enter the Classroom: Who Will be Smarter?’ focusing on potential uses of AI technologies, such as ChatGPT, as intelligent assistants to educators.
The workshop was well-attended, drawing participants ranging from those with little knowledge of AI to individuals involved in AI policy development at higher education institutions.
Chrissie and David utilised various prompts to encourage discussion and explore the possibilities of how AI could be employed by academics.
The feedback received from attendees was overwhelmingly positive, with many highlighting the potential benefits of AI in education. The workshop demonstrated UCFB's commitment to innovation and technology advancements in education.

David also commented: "The feedback we received was inspiring, and we hope to continue this dialogue with our colleagues in the education sector."
