Two first year UCFB students got behind the scenes and gained valuable insight into the running of a top London women’s football team as part of their BA (Hons) Sports Business & Sports Broadcasting degree.

Lianna Bagley and Jade Wood spent two days with the London Bees, an affiliate of League Two club Barnet FC, to produce a two-minute TV broadcast as part of their course which can be studied at our UCFB Wembley campus at the iconic Wembley Stadium campus in London.

During their time at the Women’s Super League Two club, the pair visited the homes of the Bees, The Hive, met and interviewed the club’s General Manager Steven Barron and were able to grab footage of the team’s 2-1 win over Millwall Lionesses.

The girls also managed to interview Bees defender Paula Howells.

Lianna said: “On the first day we were greeted by Steven, who allowed us to not only get some great footage of the game against Millwall, but also to do our master interview for the piece with him. He was very informative and was able to give us a great idea of the changes happening in the club.

“The second day we got footage of the grounds but were also allowed into a meeting with Steven and the development squad which gave us a great insight on where the team are heading.”

On their interview with Paula, Lianna added: “Paula was able to give us an insight of how hard they train and how lovely the atmosphere is amongst the team. On this occasion we were introduced to Bee Abadi who had not long been in the sport industry but was now coaching for the tots so we also managed to get an interview with her asking her opinion on how she was finding it all so far.

“The staff were very accommodating in ensuring we had plenty of footage for our project. Overall, there was a lovely atmosphere and it was a great experience which offered an insight into the club which we wouldn’t normally have had the chance to do.”
