UCFB partners London Elite Basketball have made history by winning their first U18 National Cup, defeating local rivals London Legends.

The final between the two London clubs took place on Sunday, January 22, at Manchester’s National Basketball Performance Centre, next door to UCFB’s Belle Vue facility.

After going behind in the first quarter, London Elite came back to win 70-53.

U18’s head coach Kieran Matthews, who is a Global Institute of Sport graduate in International Sports Management, said how proud he was of his team.

He said: “All the guys really did a great job, everyone got on the court, played their role and helped secure this championship.

“I’m really proud of all the guys and the monumental impact they have had on the growth of the program as a whole.

“The boys did a great job of controlling the controllables, which when mixed with their desire to win, really made the difference.”

London Elite helped launch the UCFB Basketball Academy at the Wembley Campus in January 2022.

As part of the UCFB Wembley Basketball Academy, student-athletes have the opportunity to play in the English National Basketball League Division 2, European Youth Basketball League, and the BUCS Basketball League.

As one of the fastest growing basketball clubs in the capital, London Elite will oversee all coaching for the student athletes involved in the academy.

With the exclusive chance to train alongside former professionals, individuals are able to create a work schedule that revolves around, and caters towards, their intense training programmes.
