UCFB is proud to announce an exciting new partnership with TalkSPORT, the world’s leading sports radio network, which will grant UCFB students with the unique opportunity to gain industry experience in a busy, state-of-the-art sports broadcasting studio. As the world’s largest sports radio station and the Global Audio Partner of the Premier League, TalkSPORT is the ideal partner to provide UCFB students with real-life sports media and broadcasting experience and thus further increase their employability upon graduation.

Work experience opportunities such as these are part of UCFB’s unique UCFB Complementary CurriculumTM, which ensures that UCFB students learn from senior professionals within the sports industry via the Executive Speaker Series, unparalleled work experience and networking opportunities and access to additional qualifications.

As part of the partnership, TalkSport offer UCFB students the fantastic opportunity to regularly shadow staff for a full match day weekend, the first of which recently took place. This student placement opportunity includes a building tour of the extensive facilities and broadcasting equipment, a media production masterclass, a commentary masterclass, a commentary practical session and the unrivalled chance to meet and question key staff and commentators whilst observing a full match day operation on a Saturday.

Ten UCFB students took part in the first TalkSPORT match day work placement, including Tom Jarvis, BA (Hons) Football Business & Media student at UCFB Burnley, who commented:

“It was a fantastic opportunity to see deep into the heart of such a well-respected media organisation. The masterclass in both radio production and commentary were interesting and informative. The skills that I have acquired from my time at TalkSPORT will serve me well in the future.”

“My invaluable experience at TalkSPORT taught me the importance of planning and preparation. To participate in a practical commentary masterclass gave me an understanding of explaining the style of play in an exciting and interesting way for the listener. It was dynamic and exhilarating, and I loved every minute of it. I would encourage other UCFB students to take advantage of these fantastic opportunities.”
