One UCFB student has been busy this summer getting vital work experience in the marketing department at a ‘unique’ company who put a modern twist on the popular game of fantasy football.

Dominic Dysart, a BA (Hons) Football Business & Marketing student at UCFB Etihad Campus, has been putting his programme experience into good practice at Unique 11, an advanced online game that pits players against one another each week, as opposed to the traditional point scoring methods of the famous game.

During his time at Unique 11, Dominic has been responsible for attracting sponsors to advertise on the game, which currently has over 2,000 players, by creating email campaigns and putting together a short-term marketing strategy.

His time at Unique 11 followed a memorable role at the Northern Ireland Football League (NIFL) working alongside the Marketing and Communications Manager. His time in Belfast was spent designing graphics, co-ordinating social media campaigns and writing match previews and press releases.

In his time at the NIFL, Dominic helped to almost double the amount of Twitter impressions in his first month, grow their Twitter followers to over 8,600 and increase their Facebook likes to over 2,350 – impressive considering it was during the off season. He also edited NIFL’s first ever Media Guide.

Dominic said: “Interning with NIFL and Unique 11 has offered me a great insight into what is required to be successful in the sports and entertainment industries. By studying at UCFB and taking advantage of the opportunities on offer through my degree and Complementary Curriculum I have been able to enter such organisations and make an impact.”
