A UCFB Etihad Campus student has seen one of his degree modules turn into regular work at Salford City FC thanks to his networking with key individuals at the club.

Jack Glennon, in the third year of his BA (Hons) Football Business & Marketing programme, was tasked this semester with maintaining a blog about a topic of his choosing for the Digital Marketing module. He chose to cover his local non-league team with match previews, reports and interviews with players and other members of staff.

Through working with Salford City, Jack set up a key relationship with the club’s programme editor and commentator, and has now landed a regular spot writing the main feature for the match day programme at each home game, as well as occasionally joining in as co-commentator and running the club’s Twitter feed during games.

Salford City are known for their illustrious owners being some of Manchester United’s legendary Class of ’92 – Ryan Giggs, Gary and Phil Neville, Paul Scholes and Nicky Butt – and were featured in a recent BBC documentary.

Speaking about his role at the club, Jack said: “Working at Salford City, a club I’ve grown to love over the last few seasons, is incredibly rewarding and is providing me with an invaluable insight into what the world of football, especially at non-league level, is like and the amount of work that goes into the club on a weekly basis. Working to deadlines and creating new content for every game has allowed me to improve my skills massively.”
