Clearing is an opportunity for students to make sure that they get a place on a degree programme that excites them at an institution that will help them to achieve all of their goals. It is not limited to those who did not manage to obtain a place at their first choice institution, and UCFB is proud to count a number of its leading students and graduates as those who’ve come through the Clearing process.

We caught up with a number of them to hear their overriding thoughts on the experience, their decision to study at UCFB and their time as a student so far…

Izzy Keighley, BA (Hons) International Football Business

“The whole process was really straightforward, and everything is outlined clearly on the UCFB webpage for Clearing. It only took one phone call to the admissions team to secure an unconditional offer which was fantastic, plus the application came back in just a couple of days.”

“I honestly wish I knew how simple the process was and how much UCFB recognise other work experience as being valuable enough to secure an offer.”

Richard Osei, BA (Hons) Sports Business & Coaching

The Clearing process was very helpful and the UCFB staff stayed patient with me being a Norwegian student and having different grades to UK students. To start with I tried to do Clearing myself, but as a foreign student I found it a bit difficult, so it was then that Vusala and Pedro from the recruitment team helped me further.

In terms of advice, remember to take a deep breath and don´t rush into any big decisions – you’re about to commit the next few years of your life to studying a subject, so make sure you think about your decision carefully.

Elle Thorne, BA (Hons) Football Business & Marketing

I left sixth form unsure of exactly what I wanted to do and funnily enough had ruled out the idea of university completely, so I took a gap year and went travelling. Then towards the end of travelling I began thinking about what to do next. Working in the football industry was always an interest of mine and my family all told me I’d be good at it, so I decided whilst on holiday in the August to bite the bullet and go for it.

As I said I hadn't planned on going to university, so when it came to applying I had no idea of the process, so it was good to see that it was so simple and straightforward.

Simon Frankland, BA (Hons) Football Business & Media

Go with your gut feeling. If football and sport is truly your passion, then it’s a no brainer to go for it as long as you fully embrace the opportunity. I had my interview on a Wednesday and moved into accommodation on the Saturday.

I can honestly say I don’t regret my decision to come here in the slightest. You really feel welcome and appreciated as a student and they really do everything they can to support you. It’s truly been a life changing year and sometimes the risky and difficult choices can become the best!
