Members of the UCFB Wembley Darts Society will travel to Sheffield this weekend to compete in the prestigious University Darts UK Big Weekender.

The society, now in its second year, will enter two teams into the event at the Octagon Centre, as well as all 14 members who are travelling to Yorkshire competing in the singles tournament. They’ll be going up against higher education institutions from around the UK, and well over 200 players are expected to take part in the tournament.

The society currently has 20 members signed up across all three year groups at UCFB. Danny Davies, the team secretary, founded the team last season and entered them into the Harrow and District Darts League where they currently sit second in Division B. As well as competing in the league, the society also runs an inter-society league and cup.

Danny, who studies BA (Hons) International Football Business, said: “It’s been a pleasure to watch the team develop as darts players and into a great group of friends. We are becoming better and more successful and seeing all this is why I wanted to start up the society last year.”

Leon Smith, society president and team captain, and BA (Hons) Football Business & Media student, said: “This year the team has gone to a different level both in ability and as a society. We have had a great season in the league and are still well in the race for promotion. I’m excited for the lads to go to Sheffield and compete on the national stage and I’m sure everyone will do themselves justice with their performances.”

Keen darts fan and society member Mackenzie Cadman, who also studies BA (Hons) International Football Business and has previously worked with the PDC, added: “Some of the players had never picked up a dart a year ago and now we are making our way to Sheffield to compete against teams and players that have been playing for many years. As a team it will be a great test for us and I think we may cause some upsets.”

Good luck to all those representing UCFB!
