UCFB Wembley is delighted to announce it will again be the academic partner and host the UK Sports Law Competition at Wembley Stadium for the second consecutive year.

The event, in partnership with the sports team at Shulmans LLP law firm, will see students from higher education institutions from across the UK compete in mock negotiations dealing with issues currently affecting the sport industry.

Negotiations are based on a number of different scenarios, which may include agreeing commercial rights and sponsorship deals; resolving disputes between teams, managers, governing bodies and other stakeholders or negotiating the commercial and legal risks in organising a sports event.

Competing as teams, the students will be judged on their ability to capture the legal and commercial outcomes presented to them by their respective clients.

They will be scored by a panel of 30 judges, comprising of industry experts from across the sport and legal sectors. Previous judges have included representatives from organisations including The Football Association, Rugby Football Union (RFU), England Basketball and Sport Resolutions, among others.

Prizes on offer to the winning teams are still to be confirmed, but previous winners have won the opportunity to gain invaluable work experience opportunities with the RFU and tickets to the annual Sport Resolutions Conference.

Sara Hale, BA (Hons) Sports Business and Sports Law programme leader at UCFB, said: “Last year’s UK Sports Law Competition was a huge success, so we were thrilled when Shulmans approached us to be the academic partner and to host the event once again within our iconic Wembley Stadium facility. This competition is a great opportunity for students to highlight their talents in front of a number of industry leaders. We can’t wait to welcome all participants and judges to UCFB Wembley next year.”

Ryan Adams, solicitor at Shulmans LLP and a specialist in commercial, tech and sports law, added: “We couldn’t have been happier with how the event went earlier this year at UCFB Wembley, so it made perfect sense for us to continue the partnership and come back for a second year in a row. The facilities on offer provide the perfect setting for participants to impress the judges.

“Working with UCFB we have managed to take the competition to the next level and we have some exciting plans for the 2018 event. We look forward to seeing everyone again at Wembley Stadium, and cannot wait to see the next generation of talented lawyers showcase their abilities.”

The competition will take place from 27th-28th February 2018 at UCFB Wembley, inside Wembley Stadium.
