talkSport are the world’s largest sports radio station, broadcasting breaking news and exclusive interviews hosted by the likes of Darren Bent and Natalie Sawyer.

Working in and amongst those names is BA (Hons) Football Business & Media graduate Mya Graham, who secured her place as an Apprentice Journalist at the sports media outlet in December 2020.

Mya learnt about the role through a conversation with leading sports broadcaster Jacqui Oatley, a contact she made through networking during her time at UCFB. One of over 1,800 applicants for the in-demand placement, Mya now has her foot, quite literally, in the door, with aspirations to go on and become a national football journalist.

Her 18-month apprenticeship involves three rotations: live programming, audio and social media. The first of these has seen her plunged into ‘The Drive Show’ alongside Adrian Durham and Darren Gough, as well as ‘White Jordan’, with listener favourites Jim White and Simon Jordan.

Now in constant disbelief that she's working for the iconic media outlet, Mya only realised at UCFB that it was broadcast media, specifically, that she wanted to pursue. Initially, it was a broad interest in media, and a fierce passion for football - she plays for Milwall Ladies today - that drove her to the undergraduate course.

Asked what excites her most about the sports industry, Mya replied: “It’s the fact that it won't feel like work, it will just feel like fun every day. I can definitely vouch for that!”

She added: “They say if you have a job that you love you'll never work a day in your life and I genuinely feel like that.”
