One of UCFB’s programme leaders has been talking about why Physical Education is more vital now than ever before.

Stacy Hughes, programme leader for BA (Hons) Physical Education at UCFB Etihad Campus has voiced her thoughts on the importance of learning about PE.

Stacy believes now is the right time to get involved in certain aspects of PE, particularly women’s football.

Stacy said: “I feel we are at a pivotal point for female football within Physical Education.

“The Lionesses have paved the way for us, and now we have to keep that momentum going, and that’s at government level to tie in with the letter that they wrote.

“If there’s something you can do to build a female club, to buy a bag of balls, cones, anything, then we get the opportunity to inspire the next generation of PE teachers, football coaches, referees.

“Now is the time to get on board and create that atmosphere and keep that momentum going.”

Stacy, who has worked in education for more than 15 years, said that UCFB is showing the positivity of more people wanting to get involved in learning about Physical Education.

She said: “Our admissions and applications have gone up 27 per cent here at UCFB, and that’s not just for PE - that’s for coaching as well, and there’s plenty more opportunities to get involved.

“The call for more PE teachers is essential for the world to know that we need more role models in the game.”

Talking about what UCFB offers with its Physical Education course, she said: “Our degree students cover a variety of different sports.

“We use all the facilities available to us, such as the outdoor centre where the students get the chance to go paddleboarding, kayaking. We also cover elements of gymnastics and dance.

“Here at UCFB, the programme leaders do support you. We have experienced a lot going through our career path and we hope you can learn from the wealth of knowledge we bring to you.”
