UCFB Manchester accommodation FAQs
Is UCFB Manchester accommodation catered?

Mill Point is self-catered, with excellent facilities for students to cook to their own taste in modern flats.

As Mill Point is in the city centre, a large number of restaurants and cafes are only a short walk away, including many popular chains, independent retailers, not to mention China Town, to cater for all different tastes.

A large 24 hour Asda, Spar, Tesco, Sainsbury’s, are also close to the city centre, as well as many more family-run convenience stores.

Do students stay in halls for a number of years?

First year students are given priority over rooms in halls, but opportunities for second and third year students are available upon request.

How do I apply?

Please complete the online form to request your accommodation via the UCFB application portal.

If I’m holding an offer from UCFB as my insurance choice, should I still request accommodation?

You can still request accommodation, however, please always be aware of the cancellation terms and conditions with the accommodation provider directly.

Do I need to pay an application fee/deposit?

A deposit is not required. However, there is a payment of £250 towards your first rent instalment and is required at the point of booking.

Is the advance rent payment refundable if I don’t end up attending UCFB?

You may cancel your booking within the first 7 days after you made the booking (the “7 Day Cooling-Off Period”). If you do that, Unite will return the payment of advance rent to you. If the 7 Day Cooling-Off-Period has expired, you will have to pay all amounts due under your Tenancy Agreement unless a replacement Tenant is found for your Room.

If you are a prospective first year undergraduate student and your offer of a place is withdrawn by UCFB as a result of you not achieving the required entry grades, you will be eligible to be released from this agreement. You may also be eligible to be released from this agreement if you are a prospective first year undergraduate student and you choose to go to a different University because you have exceeded your expected grades. To apply to be released from this agreement in the circumstances referred to above, you will need to supply Unite Students with the following:

  • A copy of your letter from UCFB withdrawing your offer or UCAS screen shot of your UCAS status which confirms that the required results were not achieved; or
  • A copy of the proof of acceptance of your new university by UCAS adjustment.

No, this is not required and you can disregard any information you receive on UCFB accommodation.

What if I do not wish to live in Student Accommodation?

UCFB would encourage you towards staying in Student Accommodation to fully experience student and campus life. However, renting private accommodation is also an option for some students, such as students with families.

What happens if I defer my place at UCFB?

If you defer your place before confirming your accommodation bookings with Unite, please disregard any information you receive on accommodation for the current academic year. We will send you the information again for your deferred place at the appropriate time.

If you defer your place after you make the accommodation booking, you should contact us as soon as possible.

I haven’t received information about accommodation yet. What should I do?

You should have received accommodation information by the end of April. If you are a late applicant to UCFB you may receive accommodation information at a later stage.

If you are worried because you have not received any information, please contact our Accommodation Office on +44 20 3780 3806 or via email at accommodationmcr@ucfb.com

Can I be released from my Residence Agreement to move into private student housing mid-semester or to return to live at home?

Unfortunately, this is not usually possible. You will have accepted a contractually binding Tenancy Agreement direct with Unite Students for the entire academic session, on a 44 week contract.

If my son/daughter opts to commute but partway through the first term decides they would prefer to move into accommodation, would it be too late?

Rooms are subject to availability and UCFB will be happy to help with any arrangements should this be the case. Please email us at accommodationmcr@ucfb.com

Is Mill Point the same building as Liberty Point?

Yes, Liberty Point was renamed Mill Point in 2019.

Accommodation guidance

Application for Accommodation

  • UCFB|GIS aims to provide accommodation for all new students who apply and register before A-Level Clearing opens. Where possible a small number of rooms will be held back for the clearing
    process.
  • UCFB|GIS secures rooms at both campuses with a contracted accommodation provider (Unite
Students) and reserves these exclusively for UCFB|GIS students.
  • UCFB|GIS ensures rooms are available for both new and returning students.
  • UCFB|GIS cannot guarantee accommodation, or the type of accommodation requested by individuals as this is subject to demand.
  • UCFB|GIS does not control the allocation of rooms. Whilst efforts will be made with Unite Students to house students according to their preferences (by year group, gender or with specific
    individuals) this cannot be guaranteed.
  • Whilst UCFB cannot guarantee accommodation or the type of accommodation requested by individuals, we may be able to offer advice and guidance around other suitable options.

Tenancy Agreement

  • A tenancy agreement is the mechanism for a student securing a room with a UCFB contracted accommodation provider.
  • The tenancy agreement is between Unite Students and the student directly - UCFB|GIS is not a party to this agreement and cannot unilaterally remove a student from their contract.
  • If a student makes the decision to withdraw from their studies at UCFB|GIS, defer or leave their accommodation then then the student is liable for the costs of that accommodation until a replacement student has been found and has checked-in to the property as per the terms and conditions of the tenancy agreement.
  • UCFB recommends that students thoroughly review the terms of their tenancy agreement with the accommodation provider and all associated policies and procedures.
  • Students are expected to adhere to accommodation providers’ contracts/tenancy agreements and may be subject to their disciplinary processes and these are separate to those of UCFB|GIS.
