UCFB student takes on Sporting Directorship Master’s course to further sports industry career

A UCFB student has been talking about why he is taking one of our executive education courses to progress his career within the sports industry.

Hugo Thaxter, who currently works as an insights analyst at Arsenal, studies MSc Sports Directorship with UCFB alongside VSI Executive Education.

Hugo spoke to us about how the Master’s course will help him as he aims to learn more about leadership and senior roles within sport.

“It’s something that I’ve always been interested in,” Hugo said, “and I believe that as I continue to progress in my career, it’s something that I should know as much about as possible.

“So to have the opportunity to come here, to be a part of an incredible alumni network, and also be alongside the fellow delegates and the professors, really allowed me to feel as if I was in the right spot and made the right decision to join this this course.”

He went on to speak about what he thinks the best thing about working in football is.

“I know it’s different for everyone else and like what they like to do but for me football allows me to have that connection to something bigger than me.”

He added: “I think you need to get better by one per cent every day.

“If you attack each moment with consistency and passion, willingness in order to get better, those opportunities will come.

“The hardest part is breaking through the door, and then once you’re through the door, continue to build off that.

He finished: “Always show up, always give your best and have that growth mindset to always want to learn more as well.

“Don’t just be satisfied with what you’re doing. Read, have conversations, get to meet new people and when you do that, your perspective starts to get bigger and then the bigger impact that you can have.”
