Darren Robinson is a snior lecturer and consultant in elite football performance, currently leading postgraduate modules at UCFB for the MSc Sporting Directors and Scouting & Recruitment programmes. Darren possesses over two decades of experience across football, rugby, and performance psychology, Darren has held senior roles at clubs including Birmingham City, Hull City, Nottingham Forest and Derby County, where he pioneered roles in performance analysis, psychology, and player development.
His career spans strategic leadership in professional football environments, including the creation of loan management strategies and talent pathways that led to high-profile transfers such as Jude Bellingham’s move from Birmingham City to Borussia Dortmund. Darren has led multi-disciplinary teams (MDTs), supported first-team management, and delivered performance profiling and player care strategies at Championship and Premier League levels.
Darren’s academic includes working across all levels at UCFB—from foundation to postgraduate—at both Wembley and Manchester campuses. He is a Higher Education Academy Fellow and a coach education experience with the FA Level III and IV Talent Identification and coaching courses, contributing to coach education through course authorship and assessment. His background also includes roles as a coach education researcher with The FA and Loughborough University, where he helped shape the transition to modern coaching qualifications. In addition to his academic and consultancy work, Darren is a match commentator and expert summariser for BBC Radio, offering tactical insights and analysis for Derby County and Burton Albion. His unique blend of practical experience, academic rigour, and media presence positions him as a thought leader in talent development, coach education, and football strategy.
