A coaching graduate from UCFB has been talking to us about his journey from studying to working at one of the country’s fastest growing private coaching companies.
Rhys Dandeker-Bourne, who studied BA (Hons) Football Coaching and Management at UCFB, now works as a regional manager at Calculated Performance.
Calculated Performance manages private coaching sessions on a one-to-one basis, developing players on specific details they require to improve their personal game.
“We get a lot of people coming to us from group sessions,” Rhys said, “where they don’t get that personal focus, whereas we can focus on that very specific technical detail with them.”
Speaking about his role, Rhys said: “I manage 30 staff at our six locations across Manchester and Liverpool, as well as dealing with the day-to-day life with clients.”
He added: “It doesn’t feel like work. It’s more of a lifestyle than a job, so it’s really fun to do something you’re passionate about.
“For me to be involved with players all the way from grassroots to academies and even professional players, is very exciting. It’s enjoyable every day.”
Rhys then went on to talk about his time studying at UCFB.
“It was exciting to speak, meet and be taught by industry-leading coaches who are really good in what they do,” he said. “Tutors at UCFB are well spoken about across the whole industry.”
He finished: “Grab every opportunity, and don’t worry about timetables clashing or if anything’s getting in the way. Make it work.
“As fantastic as university is, the experience you’re going to get by going out and doing all this stuff, whether it’s coaching, marketing, photography or whatever, is incredible.”
