Sports coaching and sports science are just two of the fields in which UCFB runs dedicated sports industry-related degree courses, with one being BSc Sports Coaching Science.
Course leader for UCFB Manchester, Stacy Hughes, has told us ten things to love about this unique undergraduate degree course.
From its range to the opportunities granted to students across the three years, there’s plenty to love about the course. See what she said below…
• This course is a beautiful blend of a few aspects of sports coaching science. If you are interested in different aspects, and do not want to be ‘pigeon holed’ into one discipline, then this is the course for you.
• Firstly, applied science – learning the foundations of the physiological aspects of the human body, how it works and how we can improve our metrics to any given sporting challenge we may face. This module is supported by world class facilities, where elite athletes come to train from around the world.
• Strength and conditioning – working with ex-professional athletes who will guide you through the key movements in order for you to be able to train athletes to achieve their goals, take into consideration their season and know how to adapt training and recovery accordingly.
• Performance analysis using the most up-to-date technology to help you understand these key team metrics, learning how to produce reports to help the teams performance.
• Fundamentals of coaching a wide range of sports and a range of coaching contexts including community sport, education and elite performance environments. Additionally, students have the opportunity to gain sports coaching qualifications.
• Sports psychology led by industry experts who are chartered psychologists and BPS accredited the undergraduate programme covers a variety of theory and application of psychological techniques to help individual and team performance.
• There are a variety of industry guest speakers who will help the modules come to life and offer guidance and reflect upon their career. Many of these offer employment opportunities. Learn to apply research and data-driven methods to improve performance.
• We have a variety of trips to clubs, community-based multi-centres and world-class facilities to bring the modules to life. Dedicated support helps you build a career pathway while studying.
• We work closely with our football academy to apply of knowledge into a team environment to ensure you are employment ready, gaining the experience you need to gain your first job role.
• The course is a 50/50 split of practical and theoretical elements. Develops key transferable skills such as communication, leadership, teamwork and time management skills valued across industries.
