Clearing Guide

What is Clearing?

Still deciding on the right degree course? Ready to begin your journey this September 2025? It’s not too late! Thousands of students found their university place through UCAS Clearing last year.

Clearing is another opportunity in the application cycle to apply to Higher Education. Instead of applying through UCAS, you can apply directly through the university you are interested in.

Who can use clearing?

There are a few reasons why someone might be wanting to apply through clearing:

  • Changed their mind about entering higher education. Sometimes you are presented with a new opportunity, or have found a new career pathway that excites you!
  • Had a change of heart about their firm university
  • Achieved better qualifications. You can use clearing to apply for a higher entry level course
  • Didn’t meet the conditions of their firm or insurance choice, clearing allows students to find an alternative provider that can still help them achieve their dream career.

How to apply for clearing?

Apply through our clearing website, either fill out the form or give our team a call to discuss options and the application form.

Once your application has been submitted, our team will get in contact with the next steps.

How to prepare for clearing?

Start researching courses available in clearing, you can also look through UCAS to check on the latest course vacancies. Have a look through the modules to get an understanding if its suitable for your career goals, and note down the entry requirements. Get your results or predicted results ready. We will need copies of the following:

  • GCSE Math’s and English Language (or equivalent)
  • Predicted grades or official grades that show your name, date of birth, qualification title and grade

Will entry requirements be reduced through clearing?

Some universities lower grade requirements for courses, but at UCFB we keep them the same throughout the year. If you have experience in the field you are wanting to study, we can review this alongside your grades. Please provide a comprehensive CV if wanting to help boost application.

What happens on results day?

If you have started an application, and we are waiting for your official grades, take a clear picture and send to clearing@ucfb.com. Our team will be working quickly to attach to your application so you can receive an unconditional offer.

Can I use Clearing if I’m still holding offers with other universities?

Yes you can begin the clearing process, however you cannot receive an unconditional firm offer until you have withdrawn from your original firm university through UCAS.

I haven’t applied through UCAS this year. Can I still apply through Clearing?

Yes! Fill out the application form on our website, or give our clearing team a call.

What should I do if I’m on holiday on results day?

Check in with your school or college to see if someone can pick up your results on your behalf or have them emailed to you. We will keep your application as a conditional offer until you can retrieve your grades.

I’ve been offered a place in Clearing. What should I do next?

If you have an active UCAS account: Log into your UCAS Hub, and click on “add clearing choice”. Insert the course information which will be outlined on your Unconditional Offer email sent by clearing@ucfb.com. You have permission from the admissions team to add UCFB as a clearing choice and press submit. Our admissions team will confirm with UCAS that you have now firmed UCFB. Enrolment then begins!

If you do not have an active UCAS account: Attached to your unconditional offer email will be an RPA form. Please fill this short form out as soon as possible and send to admissions@ucfb.com for the team to submit to UCAS.

Can a parent/guardian apply on my behalf?

We will need to have first contact with you in order to find our your course preferences and personal details. You can then give grant permission to a family member to be your point of contact.

Can I visit the University before I start my course?

Yes! We have Open Days throughout July and August, book: www.ucfb.ac.uk/events

Here you can chat with the academics and relevant departments to get all the necessary information to help your transition to university as smooth as possible.

Accommodation will also be available to view.

How do I sort out Student Finance after Clearing?

If you are yet to make a student finance application, begin your application through https://www.gov.uk/student-finance-register-login
