Former Canadian international footballer takes on MSc Sports Directorship course

A former Canadian international footballer has been speaking about how much he enjoyed taking part in the MSc Sports Directorship course at UCFB.

Terry Dunfield made 14 appearances for his national side during his career, which saw him play for clubs including Manchester City, Vancouver Whitecaps and Toronto FC, where he is now an academy coach.

He said: “I was lucky enough to play for 17 years. When it’s over, it’s kind of scary, and I felt like working in broadcasting as a soccer analyst might be a good fit for the first year.

“While I was feeling that out, there was an opportunity to be Toronto U14s head coach, and that was where my heart was.

“You’ve got to love it, you’ve got to be really passionate about the sport and helping people.

“I think energy is important, and just intellectual curiosity. I think just wanting to learn and get better.”

Terry added: “A big thank you to Toronto FC and UCFB. I’m enrolled on a programme called the Sports Directorship course. It’s a Master’s degree, which is two years part time.

“I think each candidate that comes on the course brings a different skillset and with this academia access to top professors and subject matter experts, with what’s in my backpack I’m really able to connect these dots.

“The camaraderie amongst the cohort is incredible. We’re really in this fight together and living the highs and lows.

“When I bump into my classmates on the academy circuit, I’m dropping right away, I’m running right over. I don’t know why, but we’re giving each other a nice cuddle.

“I feel really fortunate to have been a part of this programme, and would recommend it anyone. It is a programme which you can apply right away.”
