Students on their favourite aspect of life at UCFB

“I’ve loved every minute.”

“It’s been amazing. It’s unlike any other experience I’ve ever had.”

“It’s the one university where I think I can actually have a job after this.”

These are just some of the things said by UCFB students as they were asked for their favourite things about their university experience.

On a tour of UCFB’s Wembley Campus, BA (Hons) Multimedia Sports Journalism student Redford Elton asked fellow students for their favourite aspects of life at UCFB.

A range of answers and topics were given, from locations to course content and the incredible guest speaker sessions on offer.

One of the most common responses was the lecturers on UCFB’s array of sports industry-tailored degree courses themselves.

• “You tend to get the best of both worlds; you get the academic side, the theory, but you also get intangible lessons from the lecturers.”
• “Getting the opportunity to work on various different courseworks, from podcasts to presentation. We’re developing different skills we’ll need day to day when working in the industry.”
• “Having lecturers who have been there and done it put me in a much stronger position going into my final year of university.”

Another popular response to the students’ favourite part of UCFB life was the opportunities on offer to gain industry experience on work placements alongside their studies.

• “I’ve had job roles with the FA and UEFA. I’ve worked at the Champions League Final, and that was an opportunity I got just by signing up for things.”
• “If I hadn’t been here and seen an opportunity listed on JobTeaser, I never would have been able to grab that extra experience.”
• “You really are in the thick of it, you get into the deep end and it’s a lot of fun.”

Other factors which students noted as their top one included guest speakers…

• “In my first week, I had a chat with Paul Merson. By going to events, I’ve got emails from people at Sky. It’s a grest way to help you get into the industry. I don’t think many other universities give you this opportunity.”

Location…

• “I love football, I love sports. It’s like a dream for me. Every day, I’m coming into Wembley Stadium, the national stadium. It’s a dream, genuinely. I really love it here.”

And networking…

• “The events are great where we get to meet and speak to people, famous people and industry experts. I really enjoy the fact we get to network with all these different people whom no average person would get to talk to.”

The students finished by offering advice on how future students can make the most of their three years at UCFB.

• “Get involved in every society that you can. Go for all the trials, sign up for things. That’s where you meet new people, get involved and enjoy things you didn’t know you’d enjoy.”
• “If you can get ahead and do something within those first couple of years which can help your career going forward, it allows you to take one step ahead of everyone else.”
• “UCFB offers a lot of opportunities. Definitely take those.”
• “Utilise your lecturers’ network, utilise JobTeaser and make the most of it while you’re here.”
