For the fourth year running, and the third consecutive time at St George’s Park, UCFB media students provided media coverage of the National League U19 Academy and League Cup finals.
The Level Four BA (Hons) Multimedia Sports Journalism students, all based at UCFB Wembley, provided the tv, radio, press and social media coverage of the finals.
UCFB lecturer and programme leader for Foundation Year, Bob Ballard, said: “It’s a day where students get the chance to put into practice many of the things they have learned during the course of semesters A and B.
“The ‘National League report’ which we run on a Thursday gives them the chance to write match reports which get published on the NL U19 website and, in some cases, the Non-League paper.
“This cohort were able to do match commentary on both games, provide extra camera coverage as well as provide radio interviews, reports for local newspapers and update the Facebook, Instagram, X and Tik Tok accounts of the National League.
“Some of it pushed them outside their comfort zones – but, collectively, they rose to the challenge and produced some quality output throughout the day.
“Already we’re thinking about how we improve the content further next year and we may go back to doing a live stream in 2026 is the facilities allow.
“Lily Watson has worked tirelessly to put together two videos of the matches on YouTube and they achieve the professional standard many broadcasters look to achieve.
“The next intake for 2025/26 will have a high standard to emulate and, if past experiences are anything to go by, they are likely to match it, or better it, in a year’s time.”
