A UCFB sports journalism graduate has been successful in gaining a position as a sports reporter at a national newspaper website.
Lewis Browning, who graduated from UCFB with a degree in BA (Hons) Multimedia Sports Journalism, is now working as a sports reporter at the MailOnline.
After graduating in 2022, Lewis worked as a freelance sports reporter for the MailOnline as well as other organisations such as SportBible.
He spent around 18 months as a freelancer at MailOnline before being offered the full-time position in early 2024.
Lewis writes articles including breaking news, match reports, feature articles and interviews for the national newspaper site as part of his role.
Speaking about his role, Lewis said: “A lot of it is reacting to what’s going on, sharing stuff that people want to know. We will report on breaking news, sometimes we’ll do features out and about, covering events and speaking to people.
He added: “Every day is different. We have a conference each morning to speak about the news we’re anticipating for the day, whether it’s a Champions League match, darts event, cricket match or anything like that.”
Talking about his time at UCFB, Lewis said: “I enjoyed being in the environment where I was learning about something I was passionate about every day, and developing my skills around people I got on with.
“It’s a great relationship between the students and the lecturers, who help you get to where you want to get to.
“One of the key things I learned on my course was preparing for the outside world, being taught how things work and operate. It sets you up to walk into the world of sport when you leave.”
