Chapter: Implementing Implementing Tactical Periodisation and a Game Model

The application of a game model and tactical periodisation has become of steadily growing interest amongst coaches over the past number of years. Advocates such as Jose Mourinho, Pep Guardiola, Marcelo Bielsa and others, have utilised the concepts and methodologies of its founder Vitor Frade, to great effect within the elite levels of the game.
This chapter will provide a brief overview of how game model and tactical periodisation have been adapted and applied across a full season working with a semi-professional men’s team playing at step 4 of the national pyramid system. Considering some of the existing literature, it will add some context with some tangible examples of concepts etc. applied in a live setting, whilst also detailing the outcomes over a 10-month period.
