Student Support

The Student Support Team is here to support you across a wide range of areas throughout your studies at UCFB. Our services include:

  • Pastoral and Wellbeing
  • Disability and Learning Support
  • Access and Widening Participation
  • Student Finance
  • Student Union and Student Voice

We want our students to feel supported to succeed academically, professionally, and personally, and we help to guide them in the right direction for additional support alongside their studies.

Pastoral and Wellbeing Support

Our Pastoral and Wellbeing Support service provides students with a friendly and confidential environment where they are encouraged to talk and are listened to when they have a worry, a concern or just need some help or guidance.

The staff have expert knowledge in a wide range of areas, from budgeting and wellbeing support to knowing how to help students get involved with activities and the student community. We can support students to access a range of external services, including our Student Assistance Programme (SAP), support agencies and counselling provisions.

We offer 1-to-1 support that is tailored to meet the needs of students on an individual basis. Our advisors take a holistic approach to student support and are dedicated to helping students make the most of their time at UCFB and feel confident living independently. Students can access the service in a number of ways, and meetings can be held face-to-face on campus or via teams, telephone call or email.

In addition to the Student Support Team, UCFB students also have access to a Student Assistance Programme, which offers 24/7 365 days a year free and confidential counselling through telephone and/or video as well as chat-messaging support, with no appointment necessary.

To find out more information about our service or to speak to one of our advisors, please contact StudentSupport@ucfb.ac.uk.

Students’ Union and Student Voice

The Students’ Union and Student Voice service forms part of the wider Student Support provision.

The Students’ Union and Student Support Team work collaboratively across UCFB to promote positive health and wellbeing within the UCFB Community.

Together they provide and develop opportunities for students to engage in social events, societies and activities, as well as actively participating in promoting student voice.

Disability and Learning Support

At UCFB we aim to provide an inclusive learning environment where all students can get the most from their experience.

We provide confidential advice and guidance throughout the application stage and during your studies, offering students support with specific learning difficulties, long standing health conditions, diagnosed mental health conditions, autism spectrum disorders and sensory difficulties.

If you have any difficulties in accessing the information you require, then please contact us via email on learningsupport@ucfb.com or call us on 0333 241 7333.

Our Learning Support advisors offer information, advice, and guidance from application to graduation on a range of areas, including:

  • Supporting with applications for Disabled Students’ Allowances (DSAs)
  • Reasonable Adjustments (academic and assessment)
  • Support with setting up your DSA entitlement provision
  • Advice relating to obtaining up-to-date supporting evidence
  • Facilitating support across academic and support departments
  • Liaising with wider UCFB teams to ensure advice, guidance and activities are inclusive and meet the needs of all students

Our team supports students in identifying the most appropriate solutions to potential barriers to learning. We can offer a range of reasonable adjustments for students who have declared a disability and have registered with our Learning Support service. Reasonable adjustments can also be put in place for those with short-term support needs that affect access to study. i.e., recovery period because of temporary injury or medical procedure.

If a student has a disability or any support requirements, it is essential that we are informed as soon as possible. Students are advised to register with the service at the earliest opportunity so that we are able to assist with the implementation of reasonable adjustments and external support.

For more information about this service, please contact our Learning Support Team via email on learningsupport@ucfb.com or call us on 0333 241 7333.

Access and Widening Participation

The UCFB Access and Widening Participation team offers a range of resources, knowledge and advice for students entering Higher Education from historically underrepresented backgrounds.

Our team delivers outreach projects, application support and retention plans to ensure that students have fair and equitable access to higher education.

Students may be able to access additional support from our team if they are:

  • from lower income households
  • care experienced or estranged students
  • independent or mature learners
  • students from diverse backgrounds
  • dis/abled and/or care givers

We are also proud of our Scholarships and Bursary Schemes, designed to encourage students to maximise their time with us and graduate with more than just their university degree. Our Bursaries are developed to assist students from underrepresented backgrounds and give them the opportunity to access, participate and succeed at UCFB. Click the link below to find out more.
