UCFB graduate Luke has been talking to us about working as an events co-ordinator at Wembley Stadium, and his journey from UCFB to employment at The Football Association.
Luke, who studied BA (Hons) International Football Business at UCFB Wembley, is back at the home of football, working for the FA as an IT events co-ordinator.
As part of his role, Luke oversees all year-round events at Wembley Stadium, from the League Cup Final in February to England internationals later in the year, as well as wrestling, NFL games, concerts and many more.
Speaking about his role, Luke said: “I basically delve into the access control side of things, allowing everybody to get into the stadium smoothly and making sure that our technology is up to scratch, as well as contingency plans for different scenarios that could occur.”
“Matchdays are very busy event days. There can be different requirements from access control to ticketing to broadcasting.”
During his time at UCFB, Luke made the most of his access to UCFB JobTeaser, gaining plenty of opportunity within the sports industry, with work experience at West Ham United, Club Wembley and Wembley Stadium Tours.
“I also gained a role in the IT Division at Wembley Stadium on a part-time basis,” Luke said, “which has led me to the IT event role on a full-time basis.”
When asked about his time at UCFB, Luke added: “On the course, we had different trips, opportunities and guest speakers, gaining knowledge to build into our skills, that we can then apply in the industry.
“All the opportunities I got was through the UCFB JobTeaser platform. From finding and applying, I’ve developed my reputation with the relevant organisations to stand me in the best stead for my career post-UCFB.”
