UCFB students thrilled to be selected for the Women in the EFL Scholarship

Three UCFB students have been chosen for the Women in the EFL Scholarship, launched in partnership with the English Football League (EFL) to support a more inclusive and representative future for the football industry.

Launched in August 2025, the scholarship is open to female students at UCFB Wembley and UCFB Manchester

The scholarship is part of a new partnership between UCFB and the EFL, designed to provide UCFB students with unparalleled access to real-world learning experiences, industry expertise, and development pathways across the professional game.

Alongside the scholarship, the partnership provides UCFB students with access to guest speaker sessions, placement opportunities and organised visits such as industry insight days.

Successful scholars also have the opportunity to apply for mentorships and a post-graduation internship with the EFL.

Gemma Hopping and Ebony Ramskill the recipients of this scholarship

Speaking about receiving the scholarship, Ebony Ramskill (BA (Hons) Sports Management student) said: “The opportunity to learn from inspiring professionals at the EFL alongside my studies at UCFB is incredibly exciting. From a young age, football has been a huge part of my life, and I hope to help build opportunities for the next generation of girls in sport.”

Gemma Hopping (BA (Hons) Football Business and Marketing student) added: “I was ecstatic when I found out, and I cannot wait to experience the opportunities that the scholarship provides. With the scholarship, I hope to make a difference in football while progressing the women’s game.”

Brendan Flood, Chief Executive at UCFB, commented: “Partnering with the EFL represents a major milestone in our mission to prepare students for careers at the heart of the football industry. This collaboration opens the door to experiences and connections that are simply not available in traditional academic settings.”

David McArdle, Director of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion at the EFL, commented: “The EFL is delighted to see this project get up and running, and we are pleased to welcome the scholars as they begin their career journey with support from the EFL. The passion and quality shown by the Year 1 cohort have laid strong foundations for the project’s future.”
