UCFB Manchester students were treated to a visit to Bolton Wanderers, where they learned all about career opportunities in different areas of the sports industry via the various departments across the club.
The Industry Insight Day, thanks to UCFB’s dedicated Employability and Career Planning Team, saw the students given a tour of the Toughsheet Stadium, before listening to staff members at Bolton Wanderers.
After the networking and speaker sessions, the students took part in an interactive workshop, coming up with ways of creating revenue for the club.
The leader of the workshop was Chris Anguelov, who heads up revenue and growth at Bolton Wanderers. He spoke about how great it was to have UCFB students visiting, and how vital industry insight days could be for them and their career progression.
“Honestly, I think this is absolutely paramount, because the sport industry is a very tight community.
“It’s the kind of community that once you are in, and can demonstrate your capabilities, motivation, desire and passion, I think it’s somewhere that you can start to see your progression really unlock.
“Making those connections is really valuable. I think the other side to it, the theoretical side when you’re studying, is one thing, but seeing it in the flesh and taking on actual real day-to-day problems that we’re facing; I think makes it a little bit clearer to students what their life could look like.
“Getting that exposure is really, really vital.”
Chris added, talking about the workshop: “The idea is to try and give them a practical exercise on a live topic that we’re currently working on around a paid membership programme for our fans.
“It’s just the idea is to try and get them thinking well trying to really sort of case study solve situations that are live for us in front of mind.”
On top of Industry Insight Days, UCFB’s Employability and Career Planning Team provide our students with incredible experiences and opportunities, such as guest speaker sessions, Premier Events and workplace opportunities.
