A UCFB lecturer has been talking to us about the undergraduate degree course he runs, looking at the financial side of the football business industry.
Paul Brewster is UCFB Wembley’s course leader for our unique and dedicated degree course in BA (Hons) Football Business and Finance.
Paul sat down with us and spoke not only about the course itself, but the importance of learning its many topics and modules in the modern footballing climate.
Speaking about the importance of learning about football finance, Paul mentioned financial regulations dominating headlines and the intrigue of supporters has made the specific area of the industry a much desired path and field.
“I would say that the area that I teach, and that my colleagues teach, has become very, very sexy,” Paul said, “because of financial regulations.
“So much is written about whether these clubs are meeting financial regulations or not, and that makes it a very interesting topic.”
On the topic of the BA (Hons) Football Business and Finance course content and what makes the course unique, he said: “We focus primarily on the importance that finance has within football; financial management skills, accounting information, accounts departments and the importance of financial information, not only to internal stakeholders like managers.
“Managers will always need financial information to plan, make decisions and control activities of the organisation, but also external stakeholders will need financial information in relation to these football clubs.
“So, you may have owners, potential owners, lenders such as banks, trade suppliers and even fans nowadays are very interested in the financial aspects of football clubs, primarily because of the financial regulations.”
