Chapter: Understanding and Creating Your Own Coaching Philosophy
Published April 24, 2025 by Routledge
Within this chapter the elements of a ‘coaching philosophy’ will be dissected. We will look at what is a ‘coaching philosophy’, why do we need a philosophy and how to develop one of your own. We will also aim to develop an understanding between a philosophy and an ideology when it comes to coaching and a playing style. The darker elements of one’s personality will be discussed and how they can be of benefit when it comes to being a coach within an elite environment. We will delve deeper into the power of authenticity and how it is one of the key factors when developing a philosophy, especially when times become difficult. By the end of this chapter, you should have a clearer insight in to what a ‘coaching philosophy’ is and how to develop one.
